ABOUT KOTA BHARU AIRPORT

The Kota Bharu Airport or officially known as Kota Bharu Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) is located about eight kilometres away from Kota Bharu's city centre, Kelantan, Malaysia. LTSIP is the busiest airport in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It becomes the East Coast gateway into Southern Thailand and Perhentian Islands especially for direct flights from or to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Kuala Lumpur Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (LTSAAS), Penang International Airport (PIA), Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), Kuching International Airport (KIA), Johor Bahru's Senai International Airport (SIA), Langkawi International Airport (LIA), and Singapore Changi International Airport.

To date, there are five major airlines namely Malaysia Airlines (MAB), Air Asia, Firefly, Malindo Air, and Fly Scoot currently making stop-overs at LTSIP and they are increasing their flights, hence the need to improve the airport complex or bigger passenger terminal as well as longer runway at least 3,500 meters to cater larger aircraft mainly A330-300, A330-900neo, B747-400, and A350-900 especially for haj flights to Jeddah and Medina.

Apart from the six international airports in Malaysia, i.e. KLIA, KKIA, PIA, KIA, Johor Bahru Senai International Airport (LTAS) and Langkawi International Airport (LIA), Kota Bharu Airport also capable of handling international or foreign flights. This airport have also been declared as gateway to Malaysia. This airport fulfill the guidelines set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) under Annex 9, which pertains to customs, immigration, and quarantine (CIQ) facilitation.

Public Taxi & Bus: From Kota Bharu's city centre you can catch a taxi in front of Lian Hong Trading Sdn. Bhd. (an electrical home appliances shop which is located next to Kota Bharu Bus Station in Jalan Hilir Pasar) with fare around MYR20.00 - MYR25.00 per taxi or take city bus (City Liner bus) from Kota Bharu Bus Station to go to airport and vice-versa.

E-hailing service, i.e. GrabCar, Air Asia Ride and Maxim also available to and from this airport via Door/Pintu C (main foyer) especially from Kota Bharu city centre and its outskirts such as Wakaf Bharu, Cahaya Bulan Beach (PCB), Kubang Kerian, Pasir Tumboh, Bandar Baharu Tunjong, Wakaf Che Yeh, Panji, Pulau Melaka and Kota Jembal (formerly known as Kedai Lalat).

Wakaf Bharu Railway Station: The nearest railway station which is located about 15 km away from the airport and can be accessed by airport taxi and public buses (Kota Bharu Airport - Kota Bharu Bus Station - Wakaf Bharu township). Kelantan rail network links to Mount Stong State Park (via Dabong Railway Station), Kelantan National Park, Pahang National Park, and other main towns in Kelantan as well as Johor Bahru city. From Kota Bharu's city centre, this railway station is located about 5 km.
