Mustapa urges greater priority for infrastructure projects in Kelantan |
JELI: The Federal Government has been urged to provide more infrastructure projects for the benefit of the people in Kelantan under the 11th Malaysia Plan to be tabled in Parliament next week (21 May 2015).
Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed said the people of Kelantan should be given the chance to enjoy development in line with the government’s hope to make Malaysia a developed nation by 2020.
“Our priority is to upgrade the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (in Pengkalan Chepa) to become an international airport and overcome congestion at the runway and terminal to accommodate the growing number of passengers every year.
“Secondly, the Kota Bharu-Machang Highway up to Gua Musang. The federal government is building Phase 1B and 2A, so we hope the highway will be completed within the 11th Plan,” he told reporters.
Mustapa, who heads the Kelantan Federal Action Council, said the federal government should give Kelantan priority in order to stop the state from lagging behind in development.
“I hope the federal government will pay attention to the East - West Highway which connects Gerik, Perak, to Jerteh, Terengganu, as the Jeli-Machang-Pasir Puteh route is always congested. Since upgrading will involve high costs, we hope that some roads in urban areas can be expanded.”
He added the flood mitigation project which was submitted to the Economic Planning Unit should be included in the 11th Plan.
